HEIC to JPG
Runs locally
iPhones and iPads save photos as HEIC, which many apps and websites cannot open. Drop in up to 20 HEIC photos and get JPG or PNG files back. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so your photos stay on your device.

How it works
HEIC photos are decoded by libheif, the reference open-source HEIF decoder, compiled to WebAssembly and run in your browser. The decoder is only downloaded when you convert your first photo. Each photo is then saved as a JPG at the quality you choose, or as a lossless PNG. Files are recognized by their actual contents, so a photo that is already a JPG with a .heic name is pointed out rather than converted.
Common use cases
- Opening iPhone photos on a Windows PC or in older software
- Uploading a photo to a website or form that only accepts JPG
- Sending photos to someone whose device cannot open HEIC
Frequently asked questions
- Does this upload my photos anywhere?
- No. Photos are converted entirely in your browser and are never sent to a server.
- Why is the first photo slower?
- The HEIC decoder is a few megabytes and is loaded the first time you convert. After that, each photo usually takes a few seconds.
- Should I choose JPG or PNG?
- JPG for almost everything: it opens everywhere and the files are small. PNG is lossless but several times larger for photos.
- Does it convert Live Photos or HEIC files with several images?
- It converts the main still image. The video part of a Live Photo is a separate file and is not converted.
- What are the limits?
- Up to 20 photos at a time, each 50 MB or smaller.
