How it works
The image is decoded by your browser and redrawn on a canvas at the new size with high-quality smoothing. When shrinking to less than half size it is halved in steps, which gives a cleaner result than one large jump. With "Keep aspect ratio" on, typing one side fills in the other so nothing is stretched. The result can be saved in the original format or as JPG, PNG or WebP.
Common use cases
- Fitting a photo to a profile picture or form upload requirement
- Shrinking a large camera photo before emailing it
- Preparing images at an exact size for a website or presentation
Frequently asked questions
- Does this upload my image anywhere?
- No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser and the image is never sent to a server.
- Can I make an image larger?
- Yes, but enlarging only adds pixels, not detail, so the result looks softer than the original. The tool warns you when a size is larger than the original.
- How do I avoid stretching the image?
- Leave "Keep aspect ratio" on. Typing a width fills in the matching height, and the other way round.
- What are the limits?
- Files up to 50 MB, and up to 16384 pixels per side. Very large sizes can also be limited by your device's memory.
