How it works

Pages are drawn by PDF.js, the PDF renderer built by Mozilla for Firefox, running in your browser from this site's own files. Each page is drawn at the resolution you choose (72, 150 or 300 dpi) and saved as a JPG or PNG. The ZIP is also built in your browser. Very large pages, such as posters, are drawn at a lower resolution than requested when they would exceed what browsers can handle, and the tool tells you when that happens.

Common use cases

  • Sharing a page of a PDF somewhere that only accepts images
  • Putting PDF pages into a presentation or document
  • Making a preview image of a PDF's first page

Frequently asked questions

Does this upload my PDF anywhere?
No. Pages are drawn and saved entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
Should I choose JPG or PNG?
JPG gives much smaller files and suits scans and photos. PNG is lossless and keeps text and line art perfectly sharp, at a larger file size.
Which resolution should I use?
150 dpi is a good default for reading on screen. Use 300 dpi for printing or zooming in, and 72 dpi for small previews.
Can it convert a password-protected PDF?
No. A PDF that needs a password to open cannot be read by this tool.
What are the limits?
PDFs up to 100 MB, and up to 200 pages per conversion. For a longer PDF, convert it in page ranges.
