Password Generator
Runs locally
Generate a strong, random password — pick the length and which character types to include, and copy it straight to your clipboard. Nothing is uploaded or logged; the password only ever exists in your browser.

How it works
Characters are chosen one at a time using the Web Crypto API's cryptographically secure random number generator (never Math.random, which is not safe for secrets), with rejection sampling so every character in the chosen set has exactly equal probability. The strength meter shows the password's real entropy — log2(character set size) × length, the standard measure of brute-force search space — not an arbitrary score.
Common use cases
- Creating a new account password you'll save in a password manager
- Generating a one-off password for a shared or temporary account
- Checking how much entropy a password policy (length + character rules) actually provides
Frequently asked questions
- Does this upload or store my generated password anywhere?
- No. The password is generated and shown entirely in your browser — it's never sent anywhere or logged.
- Is this random number generator actually safe for passwords?
- Yes. It uses the Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues), a cryptographically secure generator intended for exactly this — not Math.random, which is not safe for secrets.
- What does the strength meter actually measure?
- Entropy in bits: log2(character set size) × password length — the standard measure of how large the search space is for someone guessing the password, not a made-up 0-100 score.
- What does "exclude ambiguous characters" do?
- Removes 0, O, 1, l and I from the character set, useful when the password will be typed by hand from a screen or printout.
